Our Parish Councillors have been hard at work this morning at the Village Hall, transforming the area around the village sign with new plants and fresh landscaping.
This marks a significant improvement over the previously charmless look, which was marred by weed killer use. The newly planted area now features a variety of vibrant plants including bergamots, geraniums, giant scabious (Cephalaria gigantea), and sanguisorbas. These plants are expected to grow to a decent height, ensuring they stand out beautifully behind the sign.
In addition to planting, we also cleared away a lot of dead foliage around the seat and bollards, giving the area a cleaner and more inviting appearance.
This project was made possible by a South Norfolk Pride in Place grant, which funded the plants. We are pleased to announce that there are still funds remaining from the grant. These will be used to purchase bulbs for autumn planting and to further enhance the verges opposite the church.
We appreciate the community’s support and look forward to seeing these improvements flourish throughout the year. Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing beautification efforts!

Local Council Clerk Week: 10 – 14 July 2023
Do you know your parish clerk? It’s Emma Chandler
Emma is the person who works with your councillors to make sure that Roydon Parish Council provides the services you need in your local neighbourhood. She runs the council meetings to which you are invited and is trained/qualified/skilled in a range of disciplines to make sure the council runs properly and within the law. She’ll be the one writing to your local MP, liaising with the unitary/district/county council about changes to speed limits, car parking charges and potholes, applying for funding grants for local projects, researching complex planning issues, running the council’s finances and managing community buildings and events. Then they roll up their sleeves to lead volunteers to clean rivers, pick litter and fundraise for local projects. They’re good in a crisis too as seen when they helped to coordinate community efforts during the pandemic.
Clerks are professionals and serve around 10,000 local councils in England and Wales. These councils emerged in 1894 to give a democratic voice to local people and they’ve changed enormously in that time, particularly during the last 20 – 30 years. They are real place shapers and, today, many manage and maintain parks, sports facilities, skateparks and recreation grounds, play areas, allotments, community and youth centres, car parks, public toilets, cemeteries, street cleaning, run events and much more. Most of all clerks and councillors are advocates, the voice for their communities.
Whatever your local council is delivering for your community, your clerk will be at the heart of getting it done. They provide the services that we all notice the most in our neighbourhoods but, disappointingly, they’re often not properly recognised for just how much they do.
Clerks are celebrated in other countries and Local Council Clerk Week aims to help raise the profile of this important profession here and explain the the work clerks do on behalf of town, parish and community councils.

The Parish Council wish to inform all residents that due to the General Election being called the National GRid has extended the consultation on the Norwich to Tilbury pylon plan. The closing date for comments to be submitted is now the 24th July 2024.
The Parish Council will be finalising their response at the Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 25th June 2024 at 7pm.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Order 2024
Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
Roydon (STRO11162) Notice
In accordance with the provisions of Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Norfolk County Council HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that owing to repairs of a leaking water main the use by vehicles (of any class/specific class) of the 76010 Baynards Lane from its junction C339 Bressingham Road to its junction with 76073 Hall Lane (the “Road”) in the Parish of Roydon will be temporarily prohibited/restricted.
Alternative route is via: 76073 Hall Lane, A1066 High Road / Low Road, 76014 School Road, 76009 High Road, C339 Bressingham Road and vice versa (Roydon, Bressingham).
The closure/restriction is necessary because of the likelihood or danger to the public or serious damage to the road or both.
The closure/restriction is anticipated to take place from 4th to 10th June 2024 but the Road may continue to be closed/restricted until the 24th June 2024 where the closure/restriction is still required beyond the anticipated dates.
This Notice shall automatically revoke on the completion of the works / when the closure/restriction is no longer necessary or otherwise on the 24th June 2024 without further notice.
If necessary, this Notice may be extended for an additional 21 days by further Notice and/or for a maximum of 18 months from the date this Notice is effective by further Order.
A person who contravenes, or who uses or permits the use of a vehicle in contravention of the restriction/ closure imposed by the Order shall be guilty of an offence.
Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.
