Litter Pick – October 2023

Last Saturday saw the final of the three litter picks held each year, organised by the parish council to help ensure the village is kept as clear of litter as is practically possible.

When only one litter pick per year was held, it was not unusual to get 15 to 20 bags of litter cleared. However with more such events each year now, the number collected last Saturday came to just 4 as seen in the accompanying photo with one of our volunteer pickers. However, some larger items of rubbish, which have been fly-tipped, are also regularly found and these are reported to the district council for collection As can be seen in the photo, all volunteers are provided with a reflective vest, litter grabber and collection bags. After picking in the area allotted to them, volunteers are invited into the village hall for free refreshments, including some homemade cakes (see photo!)

Why not make a note to take part in at the next litter pick which will be held on SATURDAY, 3rd FEBRUARY next year. The event, as always, is based at the village hall and takes place between 9.30 and 11.30 on a Saturday morning. If you just want to come along for a chat in the pop-up cafe that provides the refreshments, then you will be made welcome for a small donation. All the drinks and food for these events are donated by councillors and residents. The parish council would also like to acknowledge, and thank, all those residents who regularly litter pick of their own volition when out for walks in the village.
