Recent tree planting on Brewers Green
Last year the parish council applied for, and received, a grant of £500 to purchase a young Hornbeam tree to plant in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of VE/VJ day. The planting was delayed by Covid restrictions but, after being delivered in May, the tree was finally planted last Saturday, the 19th June. Thanks are due To David Powley who transported the tree to the Green from my home and then dug the substantial hole, and set its support posts in place, under the experienced guidance of Andrew Daniels.
A circular bench is on order which will be placed around the tree base with a small plaque affixed to note the purpose of the planting. This will take place at a date to be arranged when a short ceremony will take place to mark the event.
In addition to the Council’s planting, the two Rotary Clubs of Diss planted 75 sapling, native trees on the Green last December, also to commemorate VE day. With Covid restrictions eased, members of both Clubs gathered to mark the event at the end of May, a small memorial stone having been set amongst the trees. The photo shows the presidents of the Rotary Clubs, Graham Wuidart and Beverley Blake, with the memorial stone.
